À Punt, the Valencian public broadcaster, has premiered “Jaume I, l'influencer medieval”, a documentary for the 750th anniversary of the death of King Jaume I, who died on 27 July 1276.1
The film starts in the 21st century and travels back to the 13th to ask why the king, who conquered Valencia, is still a living figure for many Valencians. It argues that Jaume I used writing and his public image to shape how later generations would see him.1
Historians, real places and some AI
The documentary combines interviews with historians and specialists, filming at real locations and the use of artificial intelligence as a storytelling and teaching tool. Rather than only showing the king, it presents him as someone who watches his own life unfold.1
